194 Nassau Street's IP Network Range to Change

OIT Network Systems
July 17 2008

In preparation for expanding and upgrading network service at 194 Nassau Street, the IP network range for OIT Ethernet Service in that building will change on August 6 2008.

Currently OIT Ethernet Service in 194 Nassau Street is wired to the puccnet campus subnet. The puccnet subnet is wired to several buildings (including 194 Nassau Street), the subnet is numbered 128.112.64.0/21; that is, the IP address range is 128.112.64.0 - 128.112.71.255. The subnet mask is 255.255.248.0, and the broadcast address is 128.112.64.0. The default IP router is 128.112.64.1.

During 6:00 am - 7:00 am August 6 2008, OIT will move OIT Ethernet Service in 194 Nassau Street to the ehpnet campus subnet. The ehpnet subnet is numbered 128.112.208.0/21; that is, the IP address range is 128.112.208.0 - 128.112.215.0. The subnet mask is 255.255.248.0, and the broadcast address is 128.112.208.0. The default IP router is 128.112.208.1

OIT Ethernet Service will be interrupted in 194 Nassau Street during 6:00 am - 7:00 am August 6 2008 as the change is being made.

OIT will assign new ehpnet IP addresses to the affected devices, replacing their puccnet IP addresses. We will do this by locating all entries in the Princeton University Host Database that are registered specifying a "Building" field of "194 Nassau St." on the morning of August 6 2008. For each of these entries, if the entry contains a puccnet OIT Static IP Address, that IP address will be changed to an ehpnet IP address. Email showing the old and new IP addressses for each affected Host Database entry will be sent at that time to the entry's Technical Contacts. (Each entry's Departmental Contacts will also receive the mail, if they have elected to receive such mail.)

After the network change is complete at 7:00 am August 6 2008, devices attached to OIT Ethernet Service in 194 Nassau Street will need to change to use their new IP addresses (and a different IP router); until they change, they will be unable to use OIT Ethernet Service.
