Host Database Field: SYSTEM-TYPE
[This document describes a field in the
Princeton University Host Database.
You may also view descriptions of other fields.]
The System-Type is a a general description of the manufacturer
(and perhaps model) for the device.
In most cases this is something fairly general, such as
DELL-PC, HP-PRINTER, APPLE-MACINTOSH, or SUN.
-
If you have an IBM PC or clone (e.g. any Intel-based computer), look for the name of the manufacturer; e.g.
GATEWAY-PC or DELL-PC; if you don't see it, just choose PC-CLONE.
-
If you have an Apple Macintosh, your system type is APPLE-MACINTOSH. If you have another
manufacturers's Mac clone, look for that manufacturer's name; e.g. RADIUS-MACINTOSH-CLONE; if
you don't see it, just choose MACINTOSH-CLONE.
-
If your device is a printer, look for the name of the manufacturer; e.g. HP-PRINTER or APPLE-PRINTER;
if you don't see it, just choose UNKNOWN-PRINTER.
-
If you have an X-TERMINAL, look for the manufacturer, e.g. NCD-X-TERM.
