OIT Ethernet Service
-
OIT Ethernet Service allows University faculty,
staff, and students to connect devices
to the campus data network via an Ethernet interface.
The service is available in practically every building on campus.

OIT VoIP Ethernet Service
-
OIT VoIP Ethernet Service is used to connect Voice over IP
telephone handsets via Ethernet wiring.
The service is available in a very small number of buildings.

OIT Static IP Service
-
OIT Static IP Service provides a static (unchanging) IP address and DNS hostname
to your computer when it is attached to OIT Ethernet wiring
on its "home network."

OIT Mobile IP Service
-
OIT Mobile IP Services let you temporarily attach your computer to the campus
network in locations other
than your "home" location and still receive IP service without
reconfiguring your computer or updating its Host Database entry.

Temporary Unregistered Dormnet (TUD) IP Address Service
-
TUD Service allows devices attached to the Dormnet network
but not currently subscribed to Dormnet to have some limited access to campus network.
This service is provided for the
sole purpose of allowing students to submit Dormnet Subscription forms from their
own computers before those computers are receiving normal Dormnet service
(because they are not yet subscribed to Dormnet).

Visitor IP (VIP) Service

Visitor IP Service provides Internet service to devices not registered
in the Host Database when they are attached via Ethernet to the guestnet network
in the guest rooms of Palmer House.
(The service is not designed for use outside Palmer House.)

Virtual Private Network Services
-
OIT provides a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Service for
clients that support Microsoft PPTP-based VPNs.
VPN service provides a degree of security for traffic crossing the network.
It also provides a temporary Princeton University presence,
and a temporary Princeton University IP address and hostname to
a VPN client, even if the client is connected via the Internet outside the University.

OIT Domain Name Service

A description of the Domain Name Service we provide.
Domain Name Service (DNS) provides access to the Internet's distributed database,
often used to translate between domain names (e.g. foobar.Princeton.EDU) and
IP addresses (e.g. 128.112.252.7).

Network Time Protocol (NTP) Service
-
A description of the Network Time Protocol (NTP) Service we provide.
The Network Time Protocol
allows network-attached computing devices to synchronize their time/date clocks automatically.

OIT DHCP and BootP Services

DHCP (the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) and BootP (Boot Protocol)
allow a network-attached device to learn some of its network configuration information
(including its IP address) automatically.
DHCP is also used to provide
OIT Mobile IP Service,
Temporary Unregistered Dormnet (TUD) IP Address Service,
Visitor IP (VIP) Service,
and
Temporary Visitor Wireless Network Access (TVWNA).

OIT Static IP Recycling Facility (SIRF)

The OIT Static IP Recycling Facility (SIRF)
locates
OIT Static IP Addresses
that have been unused for a long time; it recycles these
addreses to help conserve them.

The TigerNet Host Charge

is waived for

devices.
