One way OIT Network Systems monitors the campus data nework
is by collecting statistics.
Many of the statistics measure
traffic volume flowing through the network infrastructure.
In some cases, we collect other relevant data; for example, modems in-use,
or CPU usage of key infrastructural components.
We also collect some statistics provided by a few hosts attached to the network.
-
Campus Core and Border Switches Traffic Statistics
-
These switches comprise the core (and Internet/Internet2 border) of the campus network.
Some of these switches are the Layer 2 presences of
switch/routers whose Layer 3 presences appear in
the router document below.
-
Router Traffic Statistics
-
Traffic volume passing through OIT's core and Internet/Internet2 border routers.
Also selected statistics for some departmental routers.
Some of these routers are the Layer 3 presences of the switch/routers
whose Layer 2 presences appear above.
-
Campus Aggregation Switch Traffic Statistics
-
Traffic volume passing through
building aggregation switches and building point of entry switches.
-
Remote Access Traffic Statistics
-
These include selected Remote Access connections to the campus network,
including OIT's VPN service, some DSL-attached sites, and
OIT's dial-in services.
Modem usage for the latter is also available.
-
Server Traffic Statistics
-
Includes selected hosts, typically OIT hosts that function
as servers for a variety of major campus services.
